Introducing: The Ivy at Tufts

In the summer of 2020, a group of 100 women made a decision to disaffiliate from a national organization. In its place, they created a local sorority here at Tufts, giving the opportunity to cultivate more inclusive and unique experience, to start from scratch and build a structure that best serves not only the organization’s members, but the rest of the Tufts community.
As a local sorority at Tufts, the Ivy is the first organization of its kind on this campus. The Ivy is uniquely ours: structured and run by Tufts students with the flexibility to update regulations and continually make changes based on the needs of our community. We welcome all woman-identifying and non-binary students to apply and join, and during our member application process we will seek those who support our values.
Our Values
I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It's easy.
1.
Fostering community for woman-identifying and non-binary students in student-led and run events and spaces.
2.
Partnering with local communities and organizations to best support their work.
3.
Promoting safety in the social scene at Tufts, and moving that social scene away from purely male-dominated spaces and events.
4.
Making connections and forming friendships outside of academics, interest groups, and class years.
5.
Providing an accessible space to students of all backgrounds/identities
Our Values in Action
The Ivy doesn’t just talk about our values. We act. This very organization was born out of members’ desires to make change and break away from a system that did not embody equity and inclusion. The values included in our constitution, written over the past six months by our Executive Board, are the principles that guide our entire organization and all that we do.
Diversity & Inclusion
The Ivy is committed to doing more than just verbally condemning racism and bigotry. Diversity and Inclusion in The Ivy means:
financial accessibility for all prospective members,
new member classes that are more representative of the Tufts community, and
a zero-tolerance policy for incidents of hate
requiring attendance from all members at D&I programming events.
Community Relations
The Ivy is committed to serving those within our community. Community Relations in The Ivy means:
attending multiple community service days,
working with service organizations and local groups that represent our values,
joint programming with other, non-Greek organizations at Tufts to broaden our community reach.
Forming Connections
The Ivy is committed to maintaining a fun and genuine experience for members, including:
fostering relationships by supporting one another in other endeavors on and off campus, encouraging members to interact with other members outside their current circles, and
creating programming events that encompass a variety of interests, from parties to movie nights.
Having each
other's back
The Ivy is committed to ensuring that members feel safe in social settings as well as supported. Having each other’s backs in The Ivy means:
all members are required to be Green Dot certified,
new member education includes discussions of sexual and mental health, safety, and substance abuse prevention, and we do not affiliate with any organizations that do not uphold our core values.
